R&R – a responsible business
As the UK’s leading ice cream manufacturer, we’re committed to serving our customers, looking after our staff and supporting the localities where they live and work. We also recognise a wider corporate responsibility for issues such as protecting the environment. This is a summary of our CSR commitment:-
Economic
We make a significant contribution to the UK economy every year through both direct and indirect taxation such as corporation tax, rates, National Insurance and climate change levy. We are based in the North of England – at Leeming Bar and Leeds – where we provide over 650 jobs.
Employees
We aim to be a good employer, treating people fairly at all times to ensure we attract and retain the best staff. We value people and their contribution, irrespective of age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, race, colour, religion or ethnic origin. Our culture is to develop the skills and knowledge of all our employees – that’s why we’re recognised as an Investor in People, as well as having achieved recognition in the IiP Leadership and Management Model.
Customers and suppliers
We aim to be innovative and creative in meeting our customers’ needs. We’re committed to being honest and fair in all our dealings with customers and suppliers.
Community
We strive to be a good corporate citizen with a responsibility to work in partnership with the communities in which we operate. Each year we donate 0.25% of our profits to local charities as well as indirect giving in terms of free-of-charge products or employee support. We’ve selected two charities with a strong emphasis on children – Hope and Homes and the Rainbow Trust – and in 2006 we donated over £50,000 to these two charities, while our employees raised a further £3,600.
Business ethics
We’re committed to conducting our business with an ethically and socially responsible attitude and treating employees, customers, suppliers and shareholders in a fair, open and honest manner. As a business we’re regularly audited by our customers. We also measure our progress through staff satisfaction surveys and via KPI measures.
Health, safety and the environment
We maintain healthy and safe working conditions and operate in an environmentally responsible manner. We carry out regular risk management audits in conjunction with our insurers. Minimising the impact we make on the environment is important to us and we are committed to continual environmental improvement and pollution prevention.

We aim to manage our business in a responsible manner by using KPIs that help us focus on our goals and assess our business, health & safety and environmental performances.
