Fund Raising Successes at R&R

Several of our colleagues at R&R Ice Cream people have been busy fund-raising.

Alan Smith, Mark White and Jason Marshall in the finance team along with Mark Levick in sales joined 40 other cyclists from across the food industry on a 3-day, 233 mile cycle ride from London to Paris.

The first day saw the riders cycling 70 miles to reach Portsmouth which was followed by a 5:15am start the next morning to catch the ferry to Caen. The party then covered 63 miles through lovely French countryside to the village of Bernay.

“We covered 100 miles on the last day and there was great excitement when Paris was finally reached with all of us doing a double lap of honour round the Arc de Triomphe,” said Alan. “We even got a wave from the French President who was driving past at the time!”

The whole event raised nearly £50,000 for the charity Caravan which helps people who have worked in the grocery industry and are now in need of financial support. The R&R cyclists raised some £6,000 towards this total as well as a further £1,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Meanwhile stock controller Seamus Boyne completed his third Great North Run in a personal best of 2 hrs 21 mins raising more than £300 for Macmillan Cancer Support. Seamus is determined to compete again in 2010 which will be the Great North Run’s 30th anniversary race.
