AWARDING YEAR FOR R&R ICE CREAM
R&R Ice Cream put in another creditable performance at the recent Food Manufacture Excellence Awards where they entered the Frozen Foods and Diversity in Recruitment categories. Not an award winner this time, but the business was shortlisted as a finalist in both sections and was up against very strong competition such as Aunt Bessie’s and Young’s Seafood in the overall category.
However, R&R won the main prize at the region’s premier business awards – the Yorkshire Post Business in Excellence Awards. The award was the last one to be announced on the evening and was for companies in the Yorkshire region with a turnover of over £50m.
Peter Pickthall received the award from Yorkshire Post business editor Bernard Ginns and comedian/impressionist Jon Culshaw who was hosting the evening.
This award is particularly important as entrants were judged across a whole range of criteria: innovation, business performance, customer service, risk management, health and safety management and employee motivation. A factory visit and interviews were also part of the rigorous assessment process.
Peter Pickthall said: “The judges were clearly impressed with our entry and the commitment of everyone in the business. The fact that the company had achieved so much in difficult economic times was highlighted.
“These successes, when added to the three accolades we won at the BFFF Awards and being selected as ASDA’s Supplier of the Year, mean we have plenty of which to be proud.”
