R&R FUND-RAISING HEROES IN ACTION

Successful fund-raising initiatives by R&R's Bev Hammond, Clare McIntosh and Hazim Karwat have helped three separate charities.

Bev Hammond and her team successfully completed the Three Peaks Challenge despite being faced with snow on Ben Nevis at the end of May !  They raised £1770 for Help the Heroes.

Bev takes up the story: "Despite horrible weather including wind, rain and snow, we managed to complete the full challenge in 27 hours and 50minutes.

"The biggest delays were caused by finding places to change our wet clothes and spending time re-packing the very snug People Carrier to try and dry everything out between climbs.  To complete the challenge in 24 hours, total climbing should take 14 hours and as you'll see from our times below we weren't far off and we're extremely proud of our effort."

Ben Nevis (1344 metres) 5hours 30mins

Scafell Pike (978 metres) 4hours 40mins

Snowdon (1085 metres) 4hours 50mins

Clare McIntosh donned fairy wings and bunny ears to take party in Cancer UK's 5km Race for Life in Harrogate in June raising £600 for breast cancer research.

Finally, Hazim Karwat was part of a team which also completed the Three Peak Challenge raising money for Epilepsy Research UK.

The team - which included Hazim's neighbour Peter Rawson - chose the charity as Peter's daughter Hannah suffers from epilepsy.  Hazim himself raised £500 from sponsorship.
